Norwegian Minister of International Development Eric Solheim
will not be visiting Sri Lanka as scheduled following the LTTE
leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s refusal to meet him due to
security threats, The Nation learns.
Norwegian Embassy spokesman Eric Nurenberg said he is not in a
position to comment on the statement made by the Tiger leader
refusing to meet Solheim.
However, special envoy Jon Hansson Bauer will be arriving in the
island late tonight and will attend to his schedule from Monday.
“Bauer will be arriving in Sri Lanka as scheduled. The
cancellation of Solheim’s visit will not hamper the programme of
Bauer,” Nurenberg said.
He added that it is not possible to disclose the details of
Bauer’s programme and the scheduled appointments because they
might be subjected to change and there are security reasons
preventing such disclosure.
