Udaya to be axed?

Chairman of the Tourist Board Udaya Nanayakkara is likely to be replaced soon, political sources said.
Nanyakkara is being probed by the Bribery or Corruption Commission on several allegations against him.
The immigration authorities prevented him from leaving the country at the Katunayaka International Airport sometime back.
It is learnt that he is to be removed due to the pressure from the people in the industry. The annual budget of the Tourist Board is around Rs.800 million and this is the first time a person investigated by the Bribery Commission has been allowed to hold a high post.
People in the industry are querrying as to why Nanayakkara has continued for sometime when there is a case pending against him in the Bribery Commission and whether it was under the Mahinda Chinthana or the Bandaranaike Chinthana.
Meanwhile it is learnt that Tourism Minister Anura Bandaranaike who did not sight his office after the ceremonial assumption of duties is now planning to go to his office from tomorrow (Monday), exactly nine months after his appointment as the Tourism Minister.
