Peterite College Hall marks 75 years

The Nicholas Perera Hall at St. Peters College, Colombo marks its 75th anniversary this year.
In celebration of this Great Hall the Old Boys Union plans to have a series of events kicking off proceedings with a Sing Along on Saturday, December 9 in the College Hall. Plans are also underway to chronicle the history and events of this great hall.
This hall was the most sought after by both foreign and local artistes especially for its wonderful acoustics and convenient location.
The Vienna Boys choir during one of their tours in the early fifties performed at St. Peters. In the late forties the then leading tenor in the world Luigi Infantino sang at St. Peters. A galaxy of other greats to recall a few were The Blue Diamonds from the Philippines who took Europe by storm in the late fifties and early sixties, Bill Forbes of “Atcha England” Fame, Desmond Kelly with his “Dream World”, Cliff Foenander with “Remember Me”.
Among the leading locals were the Jetliners and Spitfires who performed here. It would be interesting to note that in the late fifties the Jetliners performance in this hall was also televised on close circuit television in the college premises sponsored by Maurice Roche.
