Nailed!
“Yes, of course. The governments of today look
past our existence and take us for jokes… they think there is absolutely no
substance in us. When they plan constitutions and mandates, it is rarely with us
in mind. Even if the said ruling concerns us, it does not help us very much.
Such as, frequently changing exam dates and messing up our Z scores and giving
us wrong information about the. I am talking through experience. When I did my
A/L’s for the fist time, I was given my marks and was told that my Z score was
enough to get myself a place at Medical College. A few months later, I was told
that the marking of the MCQ part of the examination paper was by a faulty
machine and had my place from the university withdrawn. We need a teen rep in
Parliament to look into these things and actively represent teens in Sri Lanka.
Only then, will we finally have a place in the country and only then, will we
get our due identity and respect.

“Well, what difference would it make? It would
only increase the number of people in Parliament and that wouldn’t be very
pretty. We already have around a hundred of those ministers and other reps in
Parliament right?!”

Youth in any country is its backbone and
similarly it is so in Sri Lanka. It is on us that the development and innovation
depends. The typical Sri Lankan youth are keen eyed, courageously willing, and
have the energy to fight for an honest cause.
Despite of this fact it is a pity there is no “active youth participation” in
the parliament of Sri Lanka. The stagnating elders’ conventional workout does
not accept the innovative interference of the young. The minority representing
the parliament are “little more than young” even then do not stand the chance to
make an impact. So can “we” possibly get the opportunity??
So from my point of view there is no need for a youth representation in
parliament because there is more power in the hands of the majority of the
youth, out of parliament to make a difference.

Yes, I think it is necessary. And, I also know
a candidate in the running! Me! But jokes aside, a teen rep in Parliament would
be great because it would mean that our rights and welfare are being represented
as well. A great teen rep in Parliament would be an active, highly motivated and
goal-oriented teen or young adult, not one of those fat pot bellied men or women
in their late forties. Actually, we can even turn this thing into a competition
and that would further encourage and motivate teens to study hard, perform to
their utmost and achieve, as they would all want to be considered for
appointment as the next teen rep in Parliament. This would also act as a kind of
target for teens, to achieve more, resulting in increased productivity and
achievements amongst teens! How’s that for an idea?
