European Union Drawing
For 8 – 10 year-old children
On the occasion of Women’s
International day in 2007 (March 8) and on the occasion of the fiftieth
anniversary of the Treaty of Rome establishing the European Community
(25 March, 2007), the European Union has launched a drawing competition
in order to call on the children to express their vision of women/men
equality. The drawing competition is open to countries from Asia,
Africa, Latin America and the Mediterranean.
Their participation will testify to the creativity, enthusiasm and
integration of the concept of “gender” in the spirit of the children,
and more particularly in those of the 8-10 years age group.
The competition rules:
* Children in the 8-10 years age group, residing and attending
school in Sri Lanka participate in the contest; the drawing created
expresses their vision of “equality of women and men” with a caption in
Sinhala, Tamil or English.
* The drawing should be produced on one side of a A4 size sheet.
* The first name, the last name and the age of the child, written on the
back of the drawing, together with his class and the address of the
school should be mentioned.
* More details relating to the competition rules can be obtained from
the European Commission Office.
* The deadline for receipt of the drawing is strictly May 1st, 2007.
* Entries should be submitted to the Press & Information Officer of the
Delegation of the European Commission, No. 26, Sir Marcus Fernando
Mawatha, Colombo 7.
A winner each from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Mediterranean
will be chosen by a panel of jurors. The prize will be € 1,000 (Euro)
for each of the winners and will be used for, school stationery, and
possibly school uniforms of each of the four laureates, for the
following school year or for the subscription to an educational magazine
for the school of each of the four laureates. This magazine would be of
high interest to the contributing age group. In addition the drawings of
the four winners and six runner-ups will be included in a
drawing/postcard book which will be distributed in the schools of the
countries of the four region/continents concerned.
