Hoarding menace in city again

Questions are raised over the sudden appearance of hoardings in the city of Colombo.
According to informed sources some 50 hoardings have surfaced under the instructions of the CMC Commissioner Dr. Jayantha Liyanage.
When questioned by The Nation top CMC officials who did not want to be quoted said they were carrying out orders given to them by the commissioner.
Officials also said the CMC was inundated with requests from several ministers and parliamentarians asking for space allocation for hoardings.
“We are helpless. Almost every parliamentarian is requesting for space in Colombo city. We agree that most of them are unauthorised. But we can’t take action until the commissioner who has gone abroad returns,” the officials said.
The commissioner was not available for comment.
