President keen to initiate dialogue with Ranil

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is keen to initiate a dialogue with UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to work on a common programme to take the country forward, Jaffna UNP MP T. Maheswaran told The Nation.
Mr. Maheswaran said that he had a lengthy telephone conversation with President Rajapaksa who expressed willingness to work together with Mr. Wickremesinghe.
Mr. Maheswaran had apparently told Mr. Rajapaksa that it would not be feasible for him to encourage one or two members from the opposition to crossover from time to time when there is a shortfall of members in the government.
He had said that the country has faced severe economic and social problems and it is time to work together. The MP will communicate with Mr. Wickremesinghe to convey the Presidentís message.
