New queries plague MAS park deal

MAS Holdings has paid Rs. 1.2 billion for the Thulhiriya Fabric Park which was ceremoniously opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday.
However, the gazette notification stated that the government has valued the Park including the land and fixed at Rs. 2.3 billion.
However, business entrepreneurs are posing the questions over the deal on grounds as to how MAS Holdings acquired this area at nearly half of its value.
They queries whether MAS had signed some sort of an agreement with the BOI over this deal leading to either the BOI or the Treasury owning shares of the balance Rs. 1.1 billion or whether MAS had out rightly acquired the area at a much lesser amount.
