Heavy fighting in North

Heavy fighting took place in Mannar North and Vavuniya yesterday, with the military claiming that 16 LTTE cadres had been killed during the attacks.

According to the Defence Ministry, troops had fought back against an advance of the LTTE’s Wanni defence lines in Uliyankulam, Mannar North and Periyathampanei in Vavuniya, with heavy artillery fire.
The Defence Ministry reported that at least 16 LTTE cadres were killed and their bunkers destroyed in clashes in the Wanni yesterday.

Security forces fired heavy artillery at the advancing LTTE cadres, forcing them to flee, according to the Defence Ministry.
According to the MCNS, four soldiers were wounded in last morning’s skirmish.
