BIA Police apprehend suspect in Air Force shooting

By Ayesha Wijeratne
The suspect, who was arrested by the Bandaranaike International Airport Police, after he fired at two Air Force officers attached to the Katunayake Air Force camp, severely injuring one officer, will be produced before Court on October 26.
The suspect was arrested by the police on Saturday morning following the incident on Friday.
The two officers had visited the newly established security points at the Air Force camp, Katunayake to check the situation. The suspect had not been at his designated security point and was later found to be sleeping. According to police, the suspect regularly evaded duties and was always snoozing during duty hours.
The incident had occurred after the Squadron Leader had sent a message through another person demanding that the suspect report to him at once. After the suspect had come out, the Squadron Leader had reprimanded him for his lazy behaviour after which an argument ensued and the suspect had then taken out a weapon and shot at the Squadron Leader.
