Inaugural inter-religious council conference tomorrow

World religious leaders will join Mahanayakes and other senior religious leaders from the north, east and south of the country at the inaugural conference of the Inter-religious Council of Sri Lanka – Religions for Peace to be held tomorrow.
The meeting will take place in Kandy at the Governor’s Auditorium.

The World Conference of Religions for Peace is the world’s largest coalition of religious communities dedicated to inter-religious cooperation for conflict transformation, peace building and sustainable development.

Religions for Peace works through affiliated inter-religious councils in 70 countries on six continents
The conference will be organised by the World Conference of Religions for Peace in partnership with National Peace Council and Religions for Peace Sri Lanka.

The Inter-religious Council of Sri Lanka will become the country’s most representative multi-religious body with participation of senior Tamil religious leaders from the north such as the Bishop of Mannar.

The newly-forming Council will become the multi-religious voice of the country, offer the possibility of mediation, reject extremist tendencies, and educate the public on the positive, socially transformative power of religions and their cooperation.
Meanwhile, on April 30 an Inter-religious conference will be held in Trincomalee at the Club Oceanic Hotel.
