By Ayesha Wijeratne
An island-wide security boost has been imposed following Friday’s bomb blast which killed 26 and injured more than 40, including women and children.

Special steps have been taken to boost security at public places such as bus stands, railway stations, etc.
Police Spokesman DIG N.K. Illangakoon told The Nation that the new security programme had been formulated in order to prevent any other unwarranted incidents such as Friday’s explosion.

“The members of the Civil Security Forces have been deployed to strengthen the security in the bus stands, especially in the main cities and suburbs. The number of search operations carries out in the areas like Piliyandala, Dehiwela and Mount Lavinia have been increased following the blast,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Police has arrested nine persons on suspicion and interrogations are being carried in relation to Friday’s blast.
