Sirisena Cooray sues Rajendran for
violation of agreement

B. Sirisena Cooray in his plaint to the District Court of Colombo, claiming Rs, ten thousand million from Colombo Municipal Council Member Annapillai K.M.S. Rajendran, stated to court that he and his supporters spent money for the Independent Group under the leadership of Rajendran at the last municipal election.

He further stated that he entered in to agreement with Rajendran, who contested the municipal election as the Independent Group Leader, on May 17, 2006.

According to that agreement, Rajendran had undertaken to do the following:
(a) Tender resignation letters of the Independent Group that is at the aforesaid election.
(b) Appoint members of the said council only on the recommendation of B. Sirisena Cooray.
(c) Appoint the mayor and deputy mayor of the said council only on the recommendation in writing by B. Sirisena Cooray.
(d) Support the party of B. Sirisena Cooray in any form of litigation in any manner whatsoever per

taining to the Colombo Municipal Council
elections.
When the majority of Rajendran group was elected to the council, he had allegedly violated the agreement.
Plaintiff Cooray further stated that Rajendran and his group were elected to council due to his support and justifiable expectations were created by his supporters and himself among the voters of Colombo city.
