STF defuses time bomb in Ganemulla

The Special Task Force (STF) defused a time bomb recovered on a private passenger bus in Ganemulla last evening.
Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told The Nation that the bomb, hidden under a seat in the back side of the bus, was identified by the bus conductor.
“The conductor of the private passenger bus had noticed an unidentified bag situated towards the back of the vehicle, under a seat, and made inquires from the passengers. When he learned that the bag did not belong to any passenger, he immediately threw the bag out of the vehicle into the garden premises of the Koswinna Temple, where the bus was stopped,” Nanayakkara said.
He further said that the Police and the STF arrived at the spot soon afterwards and defused the time bomb.
He added that investigations into the incident were being conducted by the Ganemulla Police.
Nanayakkara revealed that the bomb belonged to the C4 explosives category and weighed 1.2 kilogrammes. The bus was travelling from Colombo to Kirillawela on route number 218. (JP)
