8,200 cartons of smuggled fags nabbed

The Fort Police has taken into custody 8,200 cartons of illegally imported cigarettes near the Fort Railway Station in the early hours of yesterday.
“The Gold Leaf brand had been brought into the country illegally,” OIC Fort Police
Inspector Asitha de Silva said.
According to OIC De Silva each carton contained 200 cigarettes and it all worth Rs.10,000,000.
“The Police arrested three suspects along with the cartons. One of the suspects is a Sinhalese and the other two are Tamils,” the OIC said.
He said that the Sinhalese suspect is from Katugastota, Kandy and the other two are from Colombo.
All three suspects were remanded till Monday.
