New pinnacle unveiled

 The unveiling of the newly built pinnacle of Sri Gouthama Vihara Chaitya took place under the patronage of the Chief Incumbent of Vihara Shastrapathi Omalpe Sumanaratana Thero. Agga Maha Panditha Kotugoda Dhammawasa Anu Nayaka Thera, Trustee of Sri Pada Maluwa Temple Dampahala Seelananda Thero and Principal Priest of Vidyodaya Pirivena Balangoda Sobhitha Nayaka Theros also participated at the opening ceremony.
Unveiling of the commemorating plaque was done by Bharatha Laxman Premachandra and the first offering of Ata Pirikara was made by Lakshman Hulugalle as well as distinguished priests and lay devotees.

Loans for self-employed women

Sajith Premadasa, MP for Hambantota district and Chairman of the Janasuwaya Development Foundation has initiated many projects to promote livelihood enhancement and infrastructure development in the Hambantota district.

Three-wheelers for disabled soldiers

The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence Public Security Law and Order, has donated four three-wheelers to war heroes who were disabled while serving in the battlefront while defending their motherland.

The four three-wheelers were officially handed over by the Chairperson of Defence Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa at a function held at the Ministry of Defence premises, on Feb. 5, 2009. Tennakoon Mudihanselage Gamini Bandara(Army), Vijitha Nanda Sathkumara (Army), Herath Mudihanselage Palitha Karunarathna (Navy) and Sattambi Manoj Chandana were given the relevant documents for the ownership of the vehicles by Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa and Mrs. Indu Rathnayaka Vice President of the Seva Vanitha Unit.

The Seva Vanitha Unit is dedicated to uplift the lives of the brave soldiers who work tirelessly to defend and protect the territorial integrity of the country, said Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa speaking at the ceremony to hand over the vehicles to the war heroes.

Meanwhile the soldiers who participated at the event expressed their gratitude to the Seva Vanitha Unit for its continuous support in lifting the morale of the soldiers.

New website launched

Prof. Anuradha Seneviratna, former Senior Professor of the Department of Sinhala of the University of Peradeniya, has launched a new website, www.anuradhaseneviratna.com on ‘Determination’, ‘Right effort’, ‘Courage’ and ‘Mindfulness’.

Prior to his serving as a senior professor (PhD) of the Department of Sinhala of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Seneviratna served at the University of Colombo, and was the Director of the Institute of Aesthetic Studies.

He has so far written and published nearly seventy books in Sinhala and English on various aspects of Sri Lanka’s culture and civilization.

He was conferred the highest National Award ‘Kalakirthi’ by the Government of Sri Lanka in 1991 and the honorary title ‘Dharma Sastra Visarada Kirti Sri’ in the same year by the Malwatte Maha Vihara in Kandy in recognition of his services in the fields of art, literature, education and culture. He also won the State Literature Award three times for his published books in English and was the President of the Art Council of Sri Lanka. MOU signed between factory owners

An MOU between selected factory owners from the Wayamba, Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and the Ministry of Industrial Development under the Productivity and Quality improvement programme was signed at the Ministry of Industrial Development. The picture shows Industrial Development Minister Kumara Welgama handing over a copy of the Agreement after it was signed, to Chairman of Tea Tang (Pvt) Ltd; Michael Tissera, the first captain of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team. Behind the Minister is Ministry Secretary R. V. D. Piyathilake.
