No change in election date

By Stanley Samarasinghe
The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday denied requesting to advance the date of Western Provincial election.

He said that once the Elections Commissioner gives a date for an election, it cannot be changed.

“Although a certain newspaper reported that I have requested the Commissioner to advance the election date it is not correct,” he said.

“UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake suggested that I would agree to advance the date but, I did not agree with him,” the Minister explained. “The UPFA is prepared to face the election on April 25 and we never requested the Commissioner of Elections to advance the election date to April 4.
