Barack Obama, 44th President of the U.S.A.

I have been following your Election Campaign from day one, up to the time you were elected as the 44th President of the United Sates of America and the rest is now history.

God has cast a great responsibility on your shoulders to unite the American people irrespective of colour or religion and the whole World to live in Peace and Harmony and to wipe out poverty and conflicts in every part of the world.
It is very great in your appointing Senator Hillary Clinton as the Secretary of State with whom you contested for Democratic Party nomination, where harsh words may have been exchanged during the Election Campaign and that itself shows that you are a true and sincere democrat to quote in your own words at the inauguration address, “To my fellow citizens, on this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord,” further, “on this day we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises and recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics. We remain a young nation, but in the words of scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation; the God given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.”

Your name OBAMA reminds me the meaning in the Sinhala language, the National language of Sri Lanka (Ceylon), the country of my birth, spoken by the majority of the people Sinhalese. In Sinhala OBA means “You” and MA means “Me” this combination proves that you are a true and sincere Democrat and concerned of the others and you are a God Blessed President of the United Sates of America.

We hope you will wipe out poverty and conflicts in the World, during your term of office as the 44th President of the United States of America, and at a future day, when the people of the World will live in Peace and Harmony, that day will not be long, and as you say, “Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will be not met easily or in short span of time. But know this America - they will be met.” I am sure Mr. President that day will be named ‘Obama Day’ by the world.
It was four decades ago in 1963 at the end of a mass demonstration for jobs and freedom for blacks Dr. Martin Luther King (Jr) made a speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on the USA he dreamt of. He spoke of his desire for a future where blacks and whites among other would co-exist harmoniously as equals.

In his famous Lincoln Memorial Washington speech Dr. Martin Luther King (Jr) said “I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.”

“I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by content of their character.”
Therefore with your entry into the White House the dream of the late Dr. Martin Luther King (Jr), has become a reality and it could be very well said his soul will now rest in peace.

I hope and pray that you will resolve the present conflict in Sri Lanka by bringing the two parties to the negotiation table (Talks) and settle this ethnic problem during your term of office, where presently hundreds of innocent people are killed by the terrorist and Government forces whether it may be Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims or others and as the people want to live in Peace and Harmony in Sri Lanka.
