Night of Dainty Stars

Daintee Ltd, the leading confectionery manufacturer in Sri Lanka, proudly celebrating its 25th year of success, has made all arrangements to stage the Grand Finale of the popular “X-tra Lama Tharu” talent contest for the second successive year. It is scheduled to be held at the Ummui Maliha Memorial Hall, Jilan Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Keselwatte, Panadura, on Sunday July 26, 2009.

11,226 applicants of the age group 8 to 16 years were auditioned for their talents in singing, dancing and playing musical instruments, for selection to the “X-tra Lama Tharu” contest telecast every Sunday at 5:00 pm. on TNL.
This is a pioneering programme designed to give an opportunity to those talented children island-wide, even in the remotest of villages, to blossom out before a vast TV audience.

Of those auditioned, 68 children were selected for the television appearance. After three rounds of contests, an elite panel of Judges selected 16 finalists for “The Most Talented”, while “The Most Popular”, was by the SMS voting system.
Five talented ‘Little Stars’ would be selected at the Grand Finale’ comprising ‘Most Talented Singer’ ‘Most Talented Musician’, ‘Most Talented Dancer’ by the panel of judges, and ‘The Most Popular Singer’, ‘Most Popular Dancer’ selected from SMS voting.

Winners stand to receive glittering Awards and numerous valuable gifts.
The panel of Judges will comprise Messrs Tulin Jayaratne, Lakshman Wijesekera Ms. Nirmala Ranatunga, Ms. Ranjini Perera and Ms. Visha Manohari de Silva, all of whom are specialists in their individual fields of expertise.
Sales Promotion Manager- Daintee Ltd, Kapita Weerasinghe, assisted by Ms. Navodhya Patali, a student of Girls High School, Mt. Lavinia, would direct proceedings.

Deshamanya, Deshabandu, Visharada Manoj Peiris will direct the music while Jinasiri Waduge will handle TNL Production and Direction, and Camera Direction will be by Chandrapala Alwis.
This television contest is Produced and Directed by TNL Chairman Shan Wickremasinghe and coordinated by Sales Manager- Daintee Ltd, Nishantha Mendis.

Sri Lanka’s very first Children’s TV programme popularly known as “Daintee Rasa Pana” was conducted by Daintee Ltd for 13 years, and as another ‘first’, introduced. “X-tra 40+” a singing contest for the older generation, who missed the opportunities of the television era.

Janaka’s “Sulanga mata katha karai” at Lumbini

Veteran film, tele drama and stage actor Janaka Kumbukage will launch his newest stage play titled ‘Sulanga Mata Katha Karai’ at the Lumbini Theatre in Colombo on July 25 and 26 at 6.30 pm. introducing novel aspects to the local stage drama arena.

Directed by Asoka Athawudahetti and Janaka Kumbukage who has also scripted the story, is around a young couple who live in the first floor of an upstair house. A little girl ‘Punchi Suranganavi’ also joins the scene. The situations that emerge among them make the structure of the captivating story. Chandani Seneviratne, Janaka Kumbukage, Vasantha Vittachchi and the ‘Punchi Suranganavi’ comprise the main cast while the project is produced by Kumudumalee Herath. Chandana Liyanage has composed the music with Navaratne Gamage in-charge of the music orchestration. Vasantha Vittachchi will be in-charge of the make up, Thushara Vidanagamage the hair styles, Chandana Nishantha the sounds, Ranga the lighting while Vernon Abeysinghe and W. Ravindra the stage management.
