By Ayesha Wijeratne
Police teams investigating the broad daylight murder of Galle Municipal Council Opposition Leader Deshabandu Dushyantha Seneviratne are yet to make a breakthrough into the killing.
However, the Police said they have received vital information that would lead to several arrests soon.
Three Police teams have been deployed by acting DIG Southern Range Jayantha Kulatillake under the supervision of SP Premathileke Hettiarachchi and Galle Division SSP Keerthi Silva.

Forty-year-old Seneviratne was shot dead in the presence of his children at Beligahahandiya in Galle in the morning of July 22, by an unidentified gunman who had followed him in a motorcycle with another person.
He was shot when he was getting down from his car to buy breakfast for his children on their way to school.
Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera told The Nation that the slain Opposition Leader had two murder cases committed on 3.09.1992 and 21.04.1999 at the Galle High Court.

A pending murder case bearing, No.1,677 will be taken up in Court on August 26 while he had been released by the Court from the murder case bearing No.2,832 on the Attorney General’s advice on July 15.
A senior Police officer who is involved in investigations told The Nation on condition of anonymity, that Seneviratne was a suspect in the murder case bearing No. 1,677 where Ananda Seneviratne of Jambuketiya, Athiligoda, Galle was killed by attacking him with swords and clubs on 3.09.1992. According to Police, seven suspects had been involved in the case including assassinated opposition leader Seneviratne.

The other murder case bearing No.2,832, from which Seneviratne was acquitted a few days prior to his murder, was for killing Yakgahahewage Prasanna Wickramasinghe and Laksiri Wickramasinghe by attacking them with iron rods. The other four suspects involved in this murder case are said to be related.
Seneviratna was also tipped to be the chief ministerial candidate of the UNP in the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council election.
