Tell us about your schooling days
I went to St. Mary’s Boy’s School in Halawatha and I completed my Advanced Level (A/L) in the Arts stream

How did you get into singing?
It was after my Ordinary Levels (O/Ls). I joined a few local bands in my area that is where my singing career began. During this time I joined a band called ‘Hard Black’, they had a tendency to sing songs in the genre of rock. I think that experience inspired me to continue in Derana Dream Star.

How did you get involved in Derana Dream Star?
I had a friend, named Angelo, who was well aware of my talents, he encouraged me to join the show.
When there are so many reality shows, why did you choose Derana Dream Star?
The show treats the competitors fairly and is very transparent, that is one of the shows best aspects. Due recognition is given to the competitors with talent. Furthermore it is a show made to promote youngsters such as myself.

What do you think about your journey on Dream Star, so far?
When I entered the competition I was determined to get through to the final 12. That determination has brought me this far, and somehow I will do my utmost to move further up in this competition.

What type of music do you like?
I really like western rock music. Like I said before, that was one of the reasons for me joining the group ‘Hard Black.’ If you take Sinhala music, I am very fond of the singing style of Rookantha Gunathilaka.
I would like to thank my parents for their support and to my friends, relations, teachers and everyone in Halawatha who have encouraged me. And I would also like to thank everyone who has encouraged me through short message service (SMS).

What are your future plans?
My main goal at this moment is to win the title of Derana Dream Star. After that I plan to pursue my career in music, while taking some time to further my education as well.

The 2009 Raigam Tele Awards Ceremony will be held at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC) on the evening of Friday, May 7 this year.

A press briefing related to this glamorous event was held recently at the Jubilee room of the Galle Face Hotel.
“This will be the sixth Raigam Tele Awards ceremony,” said chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Kingdom of Raigam, Ravi Liyanage.
He further stated that five years ago the Raigam Tele Awards was gifted to the nation by the Kingdom of Raigam with the object of appreciation of the talents, creativities and contributions of tele creators and institutions devoted to the progress of the tele industry and also to be a beacon to give direction to the gifted artistes of the second generation.

When looking back, all the past Raigam Tele Awards ceremonies were an undisputed success because they were able to afford a novel experience to the members of the teledrama industry while evaluating in the independent manner unique to Raigam was the main reason behind their success.
“The Accolades, good wishes and response we received were truly encouraging. We salute all the artistes, critics and media institutions for their help support and encouragement,” he added.
Taking into consideration all the constructive criticism and advice, the Raigam Tele Awards secretariat is ready to make this year’s Raigam Tele Awards ceremony a memorable one.
Commenting at the same media briefing, managing director of the Kingdom of Raigam, Ganaka Amarasinghe stated that the teledramas telecast in 2009 over television (TV) channels excluding cable TV and paid channels in Sri Lanka will be considered for awards in 2009.
“On this occasion teledramas telecast daily or weekly and not exceeding 100 episodes will be evaluated,” said Amarasinghe.

He also stated that teledramas for the ceremony are now being received and the final date for the creations to be accepted for evaluation will be February 20.
“We are happy to announce that this year too the awards ceremony will feature teledrama episodes, dramas, dance and other special items to make this awards ceremony a night to remember,” stated Amarasinghe.
According to Amarasinghe Mega teledramas which created so much interest recently will be considered only for the popular segment.
A special feature of the Raigam Tele Awards ceremony is the awards for personalities and institutions that helped advancement of the TV and teledrama industry and an honorary presentation to a very special personality.

“Selection of most popular teledrama actor, actress and the teledrama as well as mega teledrama will be by viewers vote. Voting will start on April 1 and viewers will be able to send their vote via short message service (SMS) to mobile number 077 3337337 until midnight on May 5,” said Amarasinghe.
Liyanage again emphasised that their theme for last year’s award ceremony was ‘Sigiriya’ and this year it would be ‘Love’ represented by the Taj Mahal.
“We thought of focussing our attention towards the theme ‘Love’ this year because most of the teledramas that were telecast last year were based on that theme,” he added.

Star Advice: Shraddha Kapoor

She is pretty, funky, cute, stylish, dreamy and slim. Porcelain-skinned Shraddha Kapoor is the promising and polished newbie on the Bollywood block. Recently the soft-spoken girl shared her hair- and skin-care, style and make-up tips and secrets with a very popular star website.
1) My style is very Bohemian and comfortable. I love colour, and dress according to my mood. I like fashion, but I do not follow trends. I love to shop everywhere, whether it is at Colaba Causeway or the high street boutiques in London. Lately, I love shoes from Gucci. I purchased a grey and purple bag from Miu Miu and that has become my favourite.
2) I think a pair of well-fitted jeans, a versatile jacket, a pair of black stilettos, a versatile day-and-night bag, a dress, tank, tee and shirt in white, Converse shoes and flip-flops are wardrobe must-haves.
3) I love colourful make-up. I use eye make-up from MAC, foundation from Bobbi Brown and Chanel and lip and cheek tint from Benetint. Vaseline is a must-have. It is very important to remove every trace of make-up before sleeping.
4) I use a hair-pack made of aloe vera, hibiscus leaves or flowers and curd. You need to mix aloe vera juice or gel with the dried hibiscus leaves and curd and coat your hair with the mixture. Keep it on for twenty minutes and rinse it off with water. The cooling and nourishing pack leaves your hair incredibly soft, smooth and shiny.
5) Everything in our lives is visual, and our eyes are the first senses that get stimulated. To relax and refresh your eyes, close them and place chilled cucumber slices on them. It is an incredibly relaxing eye-spa in itself.
