Bollywood superstar and heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan might break a few thousand hearts of his loyal fans in Sri Lanka by making a last minute announcement that he is not attending the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards.

At 1:50 a.m. on May 28, in response to a question raised by one of his Twitter fans asking whether he will be attending the IIFA, Khan had Tweeted saying “dont think i will be able to come for iifa..too much work here, will miss Colombo.”

However, reports released prior to May 28 indicated that the superstar would be attending the IIFA events in Colombo.

The Nation contacted Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) officials to get more information on Khan’s possible absence. “We haven’t received any official message from the IIFA stating that Shah Rukh Khan will not be attending the awards ceremony. We’ll have to wait and see if that is the case.”

Some of the other Bollywood A-listers who will be missing the IIFA include Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Arjun Rampal. The presence of Amitabh Bachchan is also not confirmed as of yet.
However, many other superstars are set to shine Colombo with their presence at next week’s awards ceremony.
