‘SHALITHA and MAHESH’ a smashing impact

‘SHALITHA & MAHESH’, two young pillars in the Modern Sri Lankan Musical Industry have been able to redefine the boundaries of Sri Lankan Music through their perfect blend of music which glues everyone. They are best known for their two tracks ‘Kavikari’ and ‘Hamuwuna’ which peaked No: 01 hit in Radio Channels as well in TV Channels for consecutive six weeks.

Shalitha, the driving force behind much of their music production, met Mahesh in 2004 while they both were dreaming to produce distinctive music. Initially Shalitha was a Rap artiste who had a keen interest in Hip Hop music while Mahesh was interested in injecting passion into live music. Aiming to inspire music lovers, the first step towards their musical career was the forming of ‘Spin Circuitz’ group with another two leading vocalist Sonal and Mohan. The first single released was ‘Waramathi’, a massive radio hit in 2005.

The group recorded several singles some of which were released as singles before the release of the tracks as a debut album titled ‘Spin Circuitz – Season 01’ in August 2008. Among the singles released, ‘Thurulata Lanvi’, a track accorded with Indian contemporary musical style and the track ‘Maxxa Chilaw’ was generally well received. Remarkably the track ‘Kavikari’ reached the top slot in Radio/ TV Charts in 2008. The debut album released was a collaboration work of these two musicians with rest of the group members namely Sonal, Mohan, Neranga, Danuka and the female artiste Franny. The giant behind their journey is the managing director Dyllon Ekanayaka, one of the best leading DJs in Sri Lanka who was a former spinner in ABC Radio Network.

Shortly after the release of their first album, the rest of the members left the group to pursue their highest studies in England. Therefore, it was not easy and smooth for these two musicians to sail all the way up. Until now since there were many obstacles. While creating new notions for an ideal track, they thought to change the name of the group as ‘Shalitha & Mahesh’. Surprisingly their effort was successful in 2009 after releasing the massive track ‘Hamuwuna ‘ with Sanka and Thilina R. which grabbed music lovers attention. This track has been rated Number one in Hiru Fm Top 40 as well as in many other radio/ TV charts persistently. This was followed up with a benchmark video produced by Wide Angle Productions.

Surprisingly the artiste Shalitha tended towards singing rather than on rapping after ‘Hamuwna’ track being released. Therefore, in commemoration of Valentine’s Day 2010, ‘Man Innam’, a solo track by Shalitha was released which was an overwhelming and popular track among young music lovers. They were offered to produce the Rupavahini Avurudu Kumariya Track – 2010 by the Rupavahini Co-operation. As a result they came up with the track ‘Ruwaththi’ for which they were praised for their diverse musical productions.

Today they operate a sophisticated audio production agency known as ‘Solid Productions’ to help the new generation musicians. Further they get a large following online through their official website, and their official pages on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook and video sharing site Youtube which has seen a large demand for the group’s music videos. On their list of achievements is a music publishing contract with M Entertainment.

Next step towards the magical sound is their Second Album – ‘Shalitha & mahesh’ Project 2 ‘yaaluwo’ which is to be released soon. What is so amazing is all the tracks are based on real stories in our day today lives. The two featuring artistes in the album is Chinthy & Thilina R. Let us salute to these two young musicians for their next revolution in Sri Lankan Music Industry. So AWAIT. !!!!!!!!!

Sihina Sithuvam – compelling story of school children

This is a story of everyone... At an age when the world seems to open its arms welcoming us unto a threshold of new revolutions.... As wide-eyed teenagers we marvelled, rebelled and loved every moment of life which flew by like soft clouds of happiness and worry.

‘Sihina Sithuvam’ is a story of a bunch of school students at the peek of their adolescence, in the midst of changing platoons of life and age, their dreams, their expectations, their family life and of course, the mischief, inherent in the mind and body of a dreamy Advanced Level (A/L) student.
Nimekha and Nethmi are sisters, though Nethmi is an adopted child. Nethmi, who had lost her family during the 2006 tsunami, is adopted by good hearted couple Mr. and Mrs. Wijesundara who had also lost a child named Nethmi in the tsunami.

Though Nimekha, the biological daughter of the Wijesundaras detests Nethmi’s presence, her parents ask her to accept the other girl as one of their own.
The sisters are put into a co-educational school for their A/L’s in the Bio Section. At school the two girls encounter two roaring gangs of students.
The gang of Rishan, Vihanga, Shashikar and Charith belong to the rich, upper-middle class section of society. They are stylish, well-mannered and have a huge fan following in school. Each of them despite being from the rich social circuit are troubled by problems at home. It is either seperated parents, a drunkard father or a working mother who spends less time with the child.

The other gang Kasun, Joseph, Tharindu and Pradeep are more simplistic with middle class upbringing. They too have issues personal to them arising out of domestic conflicts at home. But some of the boys in the gang are studiouse students who were taken into this prestigiouse school on the basis of scholarships. Nevertheless, though the scholarship had only won them a seat, they are at tenterhooks to find the ‘image’, something indispensable to the adolescent boys due to their middle class backgrounds.
The two groups need no reason to fight, they just do not get along... it is obvious they have been the same even during their Ordinary Levels (O/Ls).

As new friendships are made and old ties are rekindled, depressing flashbacks keep recurring as each youngster with his dreams and aspirations mould theirself to prepare them for a future.
Their school days echo as a ‘Sihina Sithuvam’ taking even the audience through a whirlwind of friendships, romance, family and mischief.
Sihina Sithuvam’ will be telecast from Monday to Friday at 7.30. p.m. on Sirasa TV.

Cricketers star in Akshay’s film

Akshay Kumar’s Patiala House will be shot at London’s Oval and Lord’s Ground and Trent Bridge in Nottingham. It is the first Bollywood film ever to be granted permission for shooting over there.

The film Patiala House, directed by Nikhil Advani will release in Diwalia 2010 to clash with the releases of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish. The movie is set entirely in London and revolves around a generation conflict within an immigrant Punjabi family that resides in Patiala House in Southall. Akshay’s character Gattu wants to be a bowler for the England cricket team even though his family opposes the idea.
There are two test matches in the film and it was not difficult getting permission because only a few permits had to be in order. Bhushan Kumar of T-Series applied for the permissions four to five months ago.
A source reveals that 12 professional cricketers will make an appearance in the film. They include Andrew Symonds, Dirk Nannes and Simon Katich from Australia, Nasser Hussain, Graeme Hick, Alex Tudor and Graham Gooch from England and Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal among others. Commentators Alan Wilkins, Sanjay Manjrekar and Nikhil Chopra will also be part of it.
Bhushan Kumar said, “We wanted the scene to have an authentic feel so we roped in the cricketers and decided to shoot on those grounds. We had get permission from the Cricket Boards. Sadly, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh could not get permission from the BCCI.”
