Injunction against monk extended

By Sunil Weerasuriya

Additional District Judge Mt Lavinia Fransz Gunewardene extended an injunction order against Ven. Pitaduwe Siridhamma Thera until August 6.
A group of persons living at Bellanthara Lane, Dehiwala Rohini Pushpalatha, Rukmal Mahinda Fernando, Visaka Fernando, Rukman Dias, Anoma Mary Dias, Saman Hemantha, Liyanage Gunadasa, Lal Chandrasiri Ameratunga and Loren Ameratunga obtained the restraining order against the monk.
Neighbours have complained that the Thera who conducts an Ashram by the name ‘Siri Sadham Asapuwa’ at Bellanthara Lane are causing inconvenience to them by his deeds such as placing flag poles on the street and using loudspeakers. Therefore, the residents have requested the District Court to restrict his conduct.
The plaintiffs have petitioned the Court to restrict the conduct of the Thera and his followers, who keep troubling them until the case is taken up for hearing. Accordingly, the Court on July 12 issued an interim injunction against the accused Thera and his followers and extended it until August 6 when it was taken up again last Monday. The court also ordered the defendant to file answers on August 6.
