Litterbugs caught in the act

Twenty one litter bugs who surreptitiously threw garbage on the roads late at night were nabbed in the act by plainclothes cops from Dehiwala and Mt Lavinia Police last Sunday.
Twelve of the culprits were nabbed by the Mt Lavinia police, while the balance nine were detected by the Dehiwala police.
They were each fined Rs. 10,000 by Mt Lavinia Chief Magistrate Harsha Setunga on July 26.
The culprits were from Ratmalana, Mt. Lavinia, Dehiwala and Nedimale areas. They had been in the habit of throwing their daily household garbage onto the streets at night and the police conducting an operation dressed in civvies caught them in the act.
They were charged under the Section 60 of the Highways Act 40 of 2008. (SW)
