Kandy Worship in the Dock

By Gagani Weerakoon

UNP provincial Councillor of the Central Province has taken legal action against Kandy Mayor who is also from the same party for failing to perform the statute duties of the Municipal Council.
Councillor Sanjeewa Kaviratne lodged a complain with Katugastota Police recently against the Kandy Mayor for not cleaning the heaps of plastic collected at the Elephant Bath area blocking the canal that take water to Mahaweli River and for neglecting to destroy mosquito breeding grounds for more than six months.
“The Kandy Municipal Council was given another week to clean the place. A court case will be filed if they fail to do so,” said Kaviratne.
During the first seven months a total of 1030 cases dengue and 9 deaths have been reported from Kandy.
