The Nation shines at Journalism Awards

The Nation, for the fourth consecutive year since its birth in 2006, secured several awards at the recently held Journalism Awards for Excellence ceremony. Organised by the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute, Journalism Awards for Excellence is the premier awards ceremony to honour professional scribes in the country.

This year, The Nation’s Randima Attygalle won the Feature Writer of the Year (Merit) Award and The Nation’s Graphic Editor Wasantha Siriwardena won the Cartoonist of the Year (Merit) Award. The Nation was also adjudged Best Designed English Newspaper when it won the Best Designed Newspaper of the Year (Merit) Award. Also, Sports Journalist of the Year (Merit) Award went to The Nation’s M. Naushad Amit.

Meanwhile, two honours were presented to The Nation’s sister paper Rivira. Tissa Ravindra Perera received the D.R. Wijewardene Award for Earning the Appreciation of Peers and the Public. Upali Tennakoon, founding Editor of Rivira, was given an honourable mention in the Sepala Gunasena Award for Defending Press Freedom in Sri Lanka.
