Special unit to monitor SLTB

The Ministry of Transport is launching a special unit to supervise SLTB buses running within the Colombo city and suburbs. “The unit is also responsible to be vigilant about buses parked outside the Pettah Central Bus Stop and buses running under the Sisusariya Progrmame that transport school children”, said deputy minister Rohana Kumara Dissanayake.
CTB buses are often complained to be unsuitable to be on the road and the special supervising unit is also expected to report such incidents in addition to its chief duties.
“However, the priority of the unit is to observe and supervise any inefficiency and corruption in Sisusariya which has attracted a number of complains about delays,” stressed the deputy minister.
The special unit will kick off with three motor cycles constantly assigned to keep surveillance of CTB buses and the ministry expects to increase the number to seven motorcycles.
CTB is currently recruiting additional persons required to bring the special unit to its full strength. (LH)
