Probe into gaging of Ad Level candidate to
pick up steam after exam

By Mallika Etulgama
The probe into the gagging and bounding of an Advanced Level girl student
in a lonely room at the Kandy Girls’ High School examination centre early this week will pick up in earnest after the victim completes the examination, police sources said.
They said they had deferred probing any details into the incident from the victim as they did not want to upset her in view of the examination.
Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa have called for reports from the Police. Police suspect that jealousy may have been the reason for doing the despicable act to prevent her from sitting a paper.
The victim is the daughter of a Principal of a school situated at Peradeniya. The father too is upset and was not willing to discuss the incident as it is suspected it is the students of his school who were behind the incident. There are number of stories to this incident, one is that certain teachers had been involved in this alleged incident. Others claim that certain students who were jealous of the candidate had set upon her and gagged her in a classroom of this sprawling school. Only the main hall is being used for the examination.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Pujitha Jaysundera said that the incident is under investigation and that no harm had come on the girl and the medical report confirms that there are no injuries on the candidate.
