Azwar highlights Lanka’s marine expertise

Sri Lanka is one country that accords degrees for marine expertise, Parliamentarian A.H.M. Azwer said.
Azwer made these statements while addressing the GLOBE Coral Reef Crisis Meeting in Nagoya, Japan last week.
He stated that the President established a Marine University during his tenure as the Fisheries Minister. Azwer further stated that the President had taken positive steps to develop a sustainable fisheries industry and aquaculture.
Azwer also pointed out that the President in his election manifesto had spelt out a methodology for sustainable coral reef and others marine life management, that were accepted by a vast majority of the people.
“The President received a mandate from the voters – a massive 60% of the votes – especially from the people living in the coastal areas, as a clear indication of their acceptance of his policy regarding this industry,” he stated.
