Families settled in Jaffna HSZ

Families belonging to three Grama Niladari divisions in Ilavalai and Keerimalai in the Jaffna district were resettled yesterday.
The area was earlier demarcated as a High Security Zone (HSZ).
This was the first set of resettlement in the area after the removal of the HSZ.
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) members were present when the families were resettled in the area.
“The government has removed several high security zones after the completion of the war. This will continue in the future too,” Devananda told The Nation.
TNA parliamentarian Mavai Senadhiraja, meanwhile, said that this was an improvement on the resettlement front and the removal of the high security zone was an encouraging sign on the part of the government.
“However, the land needs to be cleared and people should be provided with facilities to carry out their livelihood,” he said. (AW)
