‘I HAVE DONE MY DUTY’ - Johnston

Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando might be having the most thankless job in the entire Cabinet, for he is at the receiving end of any hike in prices of consumer essentials, even when it is caused by acts of nature beyond anyone’s control. His predecessor Bandula Gunawardena, despite being an economist, found the going very difficult, especially with the opposition and the media hounding him day and night. Instead of sulking over the problems, Johnston, however, has taken in his stride to tackle the issues entrusted to him and he insists we can weather the crisis caused by the recent bad weather.
