My aim is to make UNP victorious -Sajith

“I have a vision. I have the capability and wisdom to make Sri Lanka a better country.” These were the words expressed by the United National Party (liamentarian Sajith Premadasa, popularly known as ‘young Sajith Premadasa’ to The Nation in an interview. Following a prolonged battle with the party hierarchy, finally Premadasa was elevated to the post of deputy leader of the party, much to the chagrin of a few of the working committee members and a large number of his supporters who backed him to the hilt assuming he will be made the leader of the party. NO NGO WITCH-HUNT, SAYS KEHELIYA

Q: Can you outline for us the salient features of the proposed new legislation to rein in errant NGOs?
There is no new legislation being brought in. The legislation that had been in existence had not been enforced and as a result some of them had taken undue advantage. I must reiterate that only some have done this. So we have now regularized the enforcement. There was also a parliamentary select committee that looked into this problem and there are some observations that it made.  Full Interview
