Twenty-three injured in bus-truck collision at Mabole junction

Twenty-three persons were injured when a mini bus on its way to the airport collided with a tipper truck around midnight at Mabola junction, Wattala on Tuesday (26). Four of the victims in a serious condition were taken to the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital, while the rest were admitted to Ragama Hospital.
Those admitted to the ICU continue to be in a serious condition.
The truck had suddenly turned into a side road and the bus travelling at speed had crashed on to it.
According to Wattala police, most of the injured were relatives, who had come to bid goodbye to 26-year-old Rizvan Mohamed of Kahawatta, on his way to Kuwait for employment. Those admitted to the ICU are Rizvanís mother Fatima Bibi 56, her sister Miran Bibi 32, and her younger son Mohamed Seyyudu 22.
The driver of the bus, Chandrapala Wijesiri 32 had suffered serious injuries to both his legs. These four were in a serious condition at the time of admission.
The traffic OIC of Wattala police, Sub Inspector R. Kulawardene and constable P. D. Sarath arrested the driver of the truck Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Premaratne of Kandana,.
Wattala Acting Magistrate S. Kalahewatta remanded the driver of the tipper truck till May 02. (DP)
