Military to nab 40,000 deserters

Military Police are on the lookout to nab around 40,000 deserters who fled the services during the height of the war against the LTTE, Military sources said.
During an intense search operation launched during the last one year over 8,000 military personnel including 32 officers who deserted the service were arrested, sources further said.
The arrested personnel would be dealt according to military law. The deserters were earlier given a number of opportunities to surrender at military camps and thousands availed themselves of the opportunity and were honorably discharged, sources said. (SS)
