Police raid Maradana lodge

Following a tip off by a 16-year-old girl who was taken for treatment by a Maradana lodge keeper, officials of the National Child Protection Authority headed by IP B. W. Bopitiya arrested nine women and a 17-year-old girl along with two managers of the lodge.
The 16-year-old girl escaped from the custody of one of the lodge managers, who was taking her for treatment, and lodged a complaint with the Fort Police. The latter informed the National Child Protection Authority that raided the lodge.
Though Police believe that the women at the lodge had been used for immoral purposes, the inmates have claimed that they were all from the North and East and were waiting to leave for the Middle East as housemaids.
The National Child Protection Authority was conducting further investigations to ascertain the claim by the inmates that they were intending to travel to the Middle East. (SS)
