Nirupama on farewell visit

India’s outgoing Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao arrived in the country last Friday on a personal visit, government officials said.
It was reported that she had met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday morning for breakfast at Temple Trees. Deputy Foreign Minister Neomal Perera told The Nation that the visit was on a personal level and no official matters were discussed. Indian media reports however stated that this was a secretive visit adding that there were no announcements from the country’s External Affairs Ministry prior to the visit.
According to reports, Rao was invited by Rajapaksa for a farewell visit. It was also reported that she arrived with two officials of the Indian External Affairs Ministry.
