Mafia operating in power sector
Patali Champika Ranawaka
Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka, listing out several factors for the high cost of generating electricity, said the failure of rains over catchment areas and the Rs 16 billion paid for the purchase of power from the private sector were the main reasons among them. The cost of purchase from the private sector was 12 per cent of the annual revenue of the CEB which is Rs 139 billion, said the Minister and added that there was a mafia operating in the electricity sector that not only created stories but also hid facts from the public eye.
