Power sets from China
Sri Lanka Railways announced that 13 new power set trains would be imported from China next year streamlining the train services.
Trains are purchased and imported under a special loan scheme from China at a cost of around Rs. 9 billion and the agreement has already been finalised. The SLR officials opined that new power sets would be brought by April, 2012.
Officials said plans were afoot to streamline the train services at office hours and night services. “Depending on the demand, the new trains will be deployed. However, Colombo-Polgahawela line and Colombo-Avissawella line will get priority”, the official added.
