President attends Mahinda Scout Troop's centenary celebrations

The ‘FiGaMaSc Centen – O – Ree’ International Scouts Jamboree, held as part of centenary celebrations of the Scout Troop of Mahinda College, Galle, began yesterday (October 22) evening in Galle under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Around 1500 scouts, both local and foreign are taking part in the jamboree, which will be held over six days. Mahinda College was only the third school in the island and the first in the Southern province to establish a scout troop. The First Galle Mahinda Scout Troop was started in 1914 by Mr. F.G. Pearce.
