An area measuring some 25 feet in diameter has caved in at Galahitiyawa, Ambadandegama in Bandarawela. Police said the area had started caving in last evening. Though no loss of life has been reported due to the incident, residents of 12 neighboring houses have been evacuated on the advice of the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).

A 47-year-old cyclist was killed after being knocked down by a private bus at a pedestrian crossing in Kurunegala. Police Media Unit said the incident had occurred after a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus had stopped at a pedestrian crossing along the Puttalum-Kurunegala road to let the cyclist cross the road.
