Former Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has filed a fundamental rights violation petition and has requested the court to restrain the respondent state authorities engaging in an illegal arrest of him. The Court of Appeal on Friday gave its verdict on the Galle Municipal Council Mayor’s being in office and annulled the Southern Provincial High Court judgment which brought back the Mayor in office after the Chief Minister of the Province had removed him from his post by a gazette notification.
