Sub-Inspector injured in student protest undergoes emergency surgery

A Police Sub-Inspector who was seriously injured after being hit by a stone thrown by a Buddhist monk during yesterday's protest opposite the University Grants Commission (UGC), has undergone an emergency operation, Police Media Unit said.

The Sub-Inspector was struck by a stone thrown by a monk during the protest conducted by students from the Inter-University Bhikkhu Federation yesterday. Police fired water cannons and tear gas in a bid to prevent students from forcibly entering the UGC premises.
