The President’s Guard, which was established by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, comprising of army personnel has been dissolved with effect from April 30. Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said the unit had been dissolved due to ‘administrative purposes’.

Accordingly, the army personnel that had been attached to this division have been transferred to their respective regimental centers.

Brigadier Jayaweera declined to divulge the number of army personnel attached to the now dissolved unit on security grounds. However, the military spokesman stressed the army personnel who are part of the security cover of former President Rajapaksa will continue to remain.
