Welikada Prison riot report out this month

The report compiled by the three-member committee tasked with probing the 2012 Welikada prison riot will be released at the end of this month. The committee appointed by Minister of Justice Wijayadasa Rajapakshe commenced inquiries in February this year.

Secretary to the Committee, Lal Senadheera, said the committee was in the process of compiling its final report. The committee had already recorded statements from some 100 persons, he further said.

Senadheera said they were confident the report would be ready to before the end of this month.

The Committee, headed by former Supreme Court Judge Wimal Nambuwasam also comprises former DIG Asoka Wijetillake and former administrative official and attorney S.K. Liyanage. The report is in relation to the 2012 riot which occurred at the Welikada prison that left 27 killed and nearly 50 people injured.
