‘Sisil world’, a well-recognized local retail network of consumer goods owned by Singer Sri Lanka PLC under the multi-branding and multi channeling strategy, is set to further approach their loyal customers by expanding their network to the East through opening up their 50th showroom in Ampara, on January 16.
Having started with a refrigerator Manufacturing plant in Kaluthara in 1962, the brand initially was handled by the Associated Electricals Ltd., which was later taken over by the Singer Sri Lanka PLC in 2001, launched the retail chain ‘Sisil World’ to better cater their customers with their wide range of household appliances.
As Sri Lankan economy shifted from socialist to otherwise in the late seventies, most brands that enjoyed monopoly in the market lost their position subsequently in failing to compete with foreign brands, which conquered hearts of local consumers quicker and easier than expected. Even so, Brands like ‘Sisil’ then, and to date remains unaffected by any competition, managing to keep their Goodwill intact over the years by providing goods of supreme quality and durability.
“Even in Colombo, Sisil refrigerators are still the favorite,” said Premalal de Silva, Director Operations of the company. “With the reputation and trust we have won over the years, competition is what keeps us motivated” he remarked. Adding to it he also said that “Apart from the refrigerators that we are famous for, a wide range of appliances are sold through the Sisil network and the portfolio is further strengthened by expanding to different parts of the country”. Having introduced fridges with the famous ‘Y’ handles in an age where the equipment was a luxury, statistics prove that Sisil still boasts the number one position in the market for refrigerators in the country despite the change in generations.
Investing on knowledge building on product and customer handling, Sisil World is highly considerate about the welfare of their customers. With hire purchase, Special offers and many other consumer-friendly facilities available, ‘Sisil World’ plans to expand their network further by opening up stores in ten new locations including Kaduwela, Ruwanwella, Avissawella and Balangoda before the close of this year.
