Architect Rukshan Widyalankara was elected as the President at the ongoing 20th General Assembly of the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Thursday. Rukshan is the first Sri Lankan to be elected as President of the Commonwealth Architects. Previously he has held the posts of Vice-President, Senior Vice President and his new election is significant in view of the CHOGM to be held in Sri Lanka later this year.
Rukshan is a Past President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and Past Chairman of Architects Registration Board (ARB) Sri Lanka. He has designed many buildings of note, including Hotels, Hospitals, Educational establishments, Transport Terminals, and Apartments etc.
CAA is an officially recognized Pan Commonwealth professional Association based in the UK as a Registered Charity affiliated to the Commonwealth Foundation. CAA is governed by General Assembly of Member institutes of 42 Countries spanning to 5 regions viz. Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
