Gamers offered scholarships

A Kentucky University has officially labeled playing video games as a sport, and will awards scholarships to particularly good gamers. The University of Pikeville will be in a minority of schools which provide scholarships for those who are skilled at League of Legends, a multiplayer online battle game.

The liberal arts college will train students for the game much like it would for other athletic activity. Bruce Parsons, the university’s media director, told Associated Press that, “It will be a regime much like athletics.” But how much like athletic activity really is it?
