President Maithripala Sirisena is to visit the United States later this year on an official visit, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Rajitha Senaratne said. Speaking to journalists at the Cabinet press briefing today, Senaratne said United States Secretary of State John Kerry would also be undertaking a visit to Sri Lanka soon.

The developments follow a visit to the US by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera earlier this month where he held bilateral discussions with the Secretary of State John Kerry, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power and several other high ranking US officials.

Senaratne also said Minister Samaraweera had conveyed to Cabinet that Kerry informed him that the US government appreciates the expeditious steps being taken by the new government and that they have a clear understanding about the 100 days programme of the government.
