Newly appointed National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Susil Premajayantha yesterday said that the Nugegoda rally, which was held to bring former President Mahinda Rajapaksa back in active politics, had jolted the United National Party.

New SLFP National Organiser also said that some were making a notion that that it had affected the SLFP, but that was not true. “It shows only the strength which the SLFP could win an election at anytime”, he added.

The Nugegoda rally which was organized by the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Democratic Left Front, National Freedom Front and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya under the theme ‘Make Mahinda PM’ demanded that Rajapaksa be nominated the prime ministerial candidate of the alliance.

Premajayantha assuming duties in his new post said that he would go from electorate to electorate to organise the SLFP grassroots level organisations and strengthen the ties among constituents of the alliance in his capacity as the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance.
